METHOD FOR REDUCING INTENSITY DISTORTION CAUSED BY MUTUAL PHASE MODULATION IN WDM OPTICAL FIBER TRANSMISSION SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the distortion of intensity in a WDM optical fiber transmission system by introducing time offset between channels in each repeater for mutually connecting 1st and 2nd continuous fiber segments. SOLUTION: The WDM optical fiber transmission system 1 includes a transmission line 7 consisting of plural optical fiber segments TF arranging a repeater 9 between continuous optical fiber segments TF. Time offset is introduced between channels so that the (n+1)-th and n-th channels are offset only by τn on the entrance of the 2nd segment TF as compared with the entrance of the 1st segment TF. Here (n) is an integer equal to or smaller than N and τn is selected so as to be larger than zero and smaller than a value for canceling the correlation in the contribution to the intensity distortion between respective optical fiber segments TF.
