BELL AND HOPPER FOR SHAFT FURNACES

The invention relates to a bell and hopper for shaft furnaces, especially fo r blast furnaces, with a charging bin with a feed tube, a rotating chute carri er with a drive unit, and a swiveling chute in the inner of the furnace with drive means arranged outside the housing. The aim of the invention is to provide such a bell and hopper that is less prone to breakdowns and more resistant to wear. To this end, the drive means for the swiveling movement o f the chute comprise: at least one motor (7) which drives a toothed ring (9) b y means of a pinion (8). Said toothed ring (9) engages with the toothed spindl es (11) of at least two spindles (13) that are distributed across the periphery of the bell and hopper outside the rotating chute carrier (3) to produce a lifting and lowering movement of the spindles. The inventive bell and hopper is also provided with means (14, 15, 17, 21) for transmitting said vertical movement of the spindles to the tilting shafts (22) extending through the inner wall (24) of the chute carrier (3). The chute can be hinged on said tilting shafts to produce a swiveling or tilting movement of the chute.
