PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit a photographer to precisely grasp the number of remaining recording possible pieces by displaying the number of the remaining recording possible pieces in accordance with a compression rate which is set and the use situation of a recording medium, which is detected. SOLUTION: When a release switch 11 is depressed by half, CPU 8 reads information on the type and the capacity of a card and video data management information from a memory card 6 through a memory card I/F part 7. CPU 8 generates memory map information of a free space, based on the information and calculates a free space memory capacity. Then, CPU 8 reads respective setting switch information, executes photometry/automatic focus operations and checks whether a mode is a consecutive photographing mode or not. When it is not the consecutive photographing mode, the value of a compression rate setting switch 13 is set to a compression processing part 5. At the same time, the number of the remaining photographing pieces is calculated from the value and idle memory capacity and it is displayed on the counter of the number of the remaining photographing pieces of LCK 10. The operation for reading setting switch information is repeated until the switch 11 is depressed. When the value of the switch 13 is changed, the number of the remaining photographing pieces is calculated again and display is changed. |
