PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fuel additive composition which effectively prevents and reduces the formation of deposits in an engine by combining an aromatic ester compound of a polyalkylphenoxyalkanol with an aliphatic hydrocarbon- substituted amine which has a basic nitrogen atom and in which the hydrocarbon group has a specified number-average molecular weight. SOLUTION: This composition comprises an aromatic ester compound represented by formula I or a fuel-soluble salt thereof and an aliphatic hydrocarbon-substituted amine, desirably a branched-hydrocarbon-substituted amine, more desirably, polyisobutyl- or polyisobutenyl-amine which has at least one basic nitrogen atom and in which the hydrocarbon group has a number- average molecular weight of about 400 to about 1,000. In the formula, R is OH, NO2, -(CH2)xNR5R6; R5 and R6 are each H or a 1-6C alkyl; x is 0 or 1; R1 is H, OH, NO2, or-NR7R8; R7 and R8 are each R5; R2 and R3 are each R5; and R4 is a polyalkyl having an average molecular weight of about 450 to 5,000. It is desirable that the composition is used in a concentration of about 25 to 5,000 ppm based on a hydrocarbon fuel.
|
