PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress growth of bacteria in an activated carbon filter by mixing zeolite powder into activated carbon powder and extruding and molding the mixture under pressure. SOLUTION: Zeolite powder is uniformly mixed by 5 to 20 wt.% in activated carbon powder, to which a proper amt. of polyethylene binder water is added. The mixture is extruded and molded under pressure at 120 to 220 deg.C into a cylindrical body to obtain an activated carbon filter cylinder 1. A filtering cylinder 2 having water-permeating micropores is fitted to the outer face of the filter, and a similar filtering cylinder 3 is inserted constitute an activated carbon filter 4. The activated carbon filter 4 is housed in a water purifying device. When water is supplied under pressure, the water to be treated is passed and purified shown as arrows 7, 8, 9. By uniformly dispersing the zeolite, the filter has purifying performance and is free from growth of bacteria in the activated carbon filter 4 even when the filter is used for a long time. Therefore, clogging is prevented and the filter is not required for early exchange.
