QUANTIFICATION OF APOPTOSIS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for conveniently quantifying the apoptosis of cells (especially the initial process of the apoptosis). SOLUTION: The quantification of apoptosis is carried out as follows: (1) adding an annexin V solution labeled with fluorescent dye of fluorescein isothiocyanate to cells to be tested; (2) incubating them in the presence of calcium ions; (3) measuring the fluorescent intensity of cells at a wavelength in the neighborhood of 535 nm; (4) quantifying apoptosis based on a quantity of increase from fluorescent intensity before inducing the apoptosis of cells to be tested.
