PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevating/lowering device of a table capable of smoothly elevating and lowering a top plate in a rotation stopped state, performing extension and contraction without exposing a gas spring, attaining a structure of a light-weight leg column and simplifying assembly. SOLUTION: In a table capable of supporting a top plate by one leg column and adjusting a height, the leg column is made extendible and contractible by inserting a columnar inner support 5 inside a cylindrical outer support 4. Then, the base end part of the cylinder 6A and the tip part of the piston rod 6B of the gas spring 6 loosely fitted inside the inner support are respectively fixed to one of the end parts of the outer support and the inner support and a sliding opening 10 for vertically slidably inserting the inner support is formed at the center part of a cap 7 non-rotatably mounted to the opening end part 9 of the outer support. Then, a projected line 13 in a vertical direction is formed on one of the inner peripheral surface of the sliding opening of the cap and the outer peripheral surface of the inner support and a recessed groove 13 in the vertical direction for slidably engaging the projected line is formed on the other.
