PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To monitor the sleeping states of patients continuously. SOLUTION: The sleep state monitor device comprises a light source 1 for illuminating a subject M, a photographing means 2 for photographing the subject M, moire fringe generation slits 3a and 3b disposed in front of the light source 1 and photographing means 2, an A/D conversion part 4 for sequentially digitally imaging video signals sent from the photographing means 2, a first image memory 5a for storing digitized image data, a second image memory 5b for holding digitized image data, a storage control part 6 for passing image data kept in the first image memory 5a to the second image memory 5b and storing the first image memory 5a with new digitized image data from the A/D conversion part 4, and an analyzing means 7 for analyzing or comparing images stored in both first and second image memories 5a and 5b.
