The arrangement has a sound signal line (1) extending along the path with predefined uniform sound propagation speed and a signal coupler on the movable object (2) coupled to a signal generator (5) for coupling a clocked sound signal into the signal line. Output couplers on the ends of the line are connected to counters connected to an evaluation unit (11) for determining the transition time difference and generating a position signal. A calibration signal input coupler (14) at one output coupler is connected to a calibration signal generator (13), whereby the evaluation unit derives a position correction value from the calibration signal distance and transition time.
