A marine seismic source (10) for generating acoustic source energy from electrical power. A slotted housing (12) has an exterior surface engaged wit h an electrically activated transducer such as a piezoelectric transducer (20) . One or more piezoelectric components can be adhered or otherwise attached to the exterior surface of the housing. A case can cover all or part of the piezoelectric components, and the case can be waterproof to prevent contact between the transducer and the water (14). The case can be integrated with t he slotted housing to form a composite structure, or a cavity, for containing a transducer such as piezoelectric components.
