PURPOSE: A system and a method for establishing the play mode of an accompanying system for a VCR are provided to establish the optimum state of echo and volume by detecting the microphone in signal of the accompanying system for the VCR. CONSTITUTION: A user inserts a microphone to a microphone jack 1(15) or to a microphone jack 2(10) in the accompanying system for a VCR, and an adder(30) of a detector unit(320) outputs a high signal to a microcomputer(90), because at least one signal from a detector 1(20) or a detector 2(25) is high. Then, the microcomputer outputs control signals of initial establishment to a controlling unit(45) of volume and to a controlling unit(54) of echo. The controlling unit of volume establishes the amplifying rate of a microphone amplifier 1(35) or a microphone amplifier 2(40) into the half of the maximum value. Also, the controlling unit of echo establishes the delay of an echo delaying unit(60) into the half of the maximum value according to the controlling signal of initial establishment outputted from the microcomputer. Moreover, the microcomputer receives the information about the rill having larger remaining amount of tape between a supplying rill and a winding rill in a cassette tape inserted to a cassette traveling unit(360). Then, the microcomputer controls a servo(50) for moving a head to the location containing a VISS signal, and establishing the rill having larger remaining amount of tape as the supplying rill to travel the tape.
