PURPOSE: A weldment controller of a flash butt welder is provided to accurately weld steel plates on the center of a preceding and a succeeding steel plate by measuring real thickness of two steel plates from a moving distance of an upper electrode while compressing the plate. CONSTITUTION: A photosensor senses a preceding steel plate and a controller(57) obtains a position value from the thickness value of the preceding and a succeeding steel plate base on the information. A first and a second adjustment cylinder(41,42) are adjusted as much as the adjustment position value of a moving stand according to a variation top limit. The moving stand of a welder is adjusted by the steel plate thickness. On the basis of electrode positions, the real thickness differences between the proceeding and the succeeding steel plate are obtained. The differences between the theoretical thickness difference and the real thickness differences are obtained. While flowing strong current to electrodes, an upset cylinder is adjusted and moves in a transferring direction of the steel plate. Then, the preceding and the succeeding steel plate are welded.
