PURPOSE: A device for detecting defect in the edge portion of a progressing steel sheet is provided to reduce burden for an operator and to improve productivity by winding up coils having a uniform section by preventing the malfunction of an adjustor while winding up steel sheet by using an air typed edge detect adjustor. CONSTITUTION: A device for detecting defect in the edge portion of a progressing steel sheet contains an adjustor(5) controlling the location of a tension rill by detecting the location of a steel sheet edge portion in an air type for winding up a steel sheet(2) in a coil shape. First and second bases(12,14) are connected to a connecting bar(13) by using a screw(15) for being adjusted by a handle(15a) of the screw. Herein, the bases move along a lower rail(11) installed widthwise of the steel sheet. And a first and a second screw rods(23a,23b) are installed on the upper surface of a touch base(17) and the second base for containing detecting rolls(22a,22b). And, a first and a second adjusting springs(26a,26b) are installed on the touch base and the second base, and a detecting portion(20) contains a limit switch. Moreover, a controlling portion(30) is formed by a selecting switch(33) controlling the on/off of the adjustor for the established period of a timer(32). Herein, the timer is operated by receiving the detecting signal of the limit switch.
