PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform rotation and axial movement of a coupling for chucking in a noncontact manner, and to improve load resistant characteristic at chucking. SOLUTION: This chucking device is constituted of an optical sensor 20 and an optical switch 21 for detecting both the distance between a coupling 12 and an object chucked 14, and a locking/non-locking state of lock claws 13 to locked parts 15 caused by rotation of the coupling 12, in a noncontact contact manner, and a thrust bearing 7 used concurrently with a bearing 5 improves a load resistant characteristics.
