PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a particle sorting method by color accurately sorting a defective product wherein a defective part is formed to the end part of a particle to enhance sorting accuracy and a sorter adapted thereto. SOLUTION: A particle sorter by color 1 has a transfer means 2 for transferring a particulate material to be sorted, an imaging means 18 taking the image of the transferred particulate material, defective product judging means 19, 20, 21 for judging the presence region of a defective product on the basis of the imaging data in the imaging means, a plurality of sorting means 4 for sorting the defective product, selection means 22, 26, 27 selecting the sorting means 4 operated on the basis of the presence region of the defective product judged by the defective product judging means 19, 20, 21 and control means 23, 24 connected to the selection means 19, 20, 21 and the sorting means 4 to control the operation of the sorting means 4.
