PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the amount of lack of signals during a tape reversal and to improve the reliability of video signals in a VTR device in which two system signals are recorded continuously and reciprocally. SOLUTION: A VTR device 10 moves a magnetic tape 2 in a forward direction at a prescribed speed and two magnetic head pairs 101a and 101b and (101a' and 101b') record first and second signals in a track pair. A nonrecording region equivalent to a track pair is formed in the adjacent area of the above track pair and the magnetic head pairs (101a and 101b) and (101a' and 101b') alternatively conduct a recording. Then, the moving direction of the tape 2 is reversed and the tape 2 is moved in a backward direction with the prescribed speed. While a recording is conducted for the first and the second signals in the nonrecording region by the magnetic head pairs, one or both of the first and the second signals, in which the number of signals is reduced from the first and the second signals stored in a memory, are recorded on the tape 2 by the head pairs (101a and 101b) and (101a' and 101b') only immediately after the completion of the reversal operation.
