PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture display device which is of low power consumption and capable of preventing pseudo colors and coloring at edge parts. SOLUTION: This is a picture display device provided with a picture signal processing means 11 for processing a picture signal, a picture signal output means 11 for separating the processed picture signal into those of red, green, and blue and outputting them in time-division manner, a liquid crystal display unit 7 wherein all the picture elements can transmit red, green, and blue light and the unit varies the transmissivity of each picture element according to the red, green, and blue picture signals outputted from the picture signal output means, red, green and blue light emitting diodes 10 capable of irradiating the back of the liquid crystal unit with these lights, and a light emitting diode control means 11 for making the red, green, and blue diodes emit light correspondingly to the timing when the picture signal output means outputs the red, green, and blue picture signals.
