PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing homogeneous, thin and tabular silver halide crystals. SOLUTION: (1) An aqueous silver salt and a halide salt soln. are added at the same time into a reaction vessel (a) containing an aq. soln. of protective colloid to form silver halide nuclei. (2) Silver halide nuclei dispersed soln. in the vessel (a) is transferred into a mixing chamber (b) and is diluted. (3) The nuclei in the diluted dispersed soln. are made to grow in a growth chamber (c), by adding the aq. silver salt and the halide salt soln. thereto and mixing the same. Then crystals, which are grown in the reaction vessel (a) which is a part of a closed circuit together with the mixing chamber (b) and the growth chamber (c), are collected. (4) Silver halide crystal dispersed soln is transferred into the mixing chamber (b) and is diluted. (5) The silver halide crystals are made to grow further in the growth chamber (c), and the silver halide crystals are collected in the reaction vessel (a). (6) Silver halide crystal emulsion is concentrated at the same time with the growing process, in order to maintain emulsion level in the reaction vessel (a).
