PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide-angle and compact high variable power zoom lens. SOLUTION: This zoom lens is constituted of a positive 1st group Gr1, a negative 2nd group Gr2, a positive 3rd group Gr3 and a positive 4th group Gr4 in the order from an object side, and the 4th group Gr4 is provided with a positive lens and a negative lens. The zoom lens satisfies conditional expressions 4.0<TLW/Y'<5.2, 1.1<fW/Y'<1.4, 1.68<f4/fW<2.5 and 2.1<f1/fW<3.50 TLW is the distance from a 1st surface r1 to an image surface at a wide end [W], Y' is maximum image height, fW is the focal distance of the entire system at the wide end [W], f1 is the focal distance of the 1st group Gr1, and f4 is the focal distance of the 4th group Gr4}.
