PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To store important data such as a private key used for the public key encryption method with security. SOLUTION: When a user gives an instruction to access storage information stored in a fingerprint collation device 100 to a host computer 200, a collation instruction command is transmitted to the fingerprint collation device 100. A fingerprint detection means consisting of an LED 111, a lens mirror barrel 112, a CCD 113 and an A/D converter 314 reads a fingerprint of the user a collation controller 120 collates the fingerprint with the stored fingerprint and permits the user to access the storage information only when the result of collation indicates coincidence. Simultaneously the result of collation is sent to the host computer 100.
