PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reproduce conditions approximating the natural state and to evaluate the resistance to pollution, in a short time, by repeating the spraying of a dust material to a sample and a plate provided above the sample and the sprinkling to the portion of the plate. SOLUTION: The pollution progress test of a material, such as concrete used for the outer wall of a house or a building, is conducted by using, for example a test body 3 fitted with a plate 2 simulating a window and made of a plastic which is easily stuck by dust above a sample 1. A water sprinkling 4 to the plate 2, spraying of a dust material with the prescribed composition on the faces of the sample 1 and the plate 2, and drying are repeated for the process with the test body 3 fitted to a rotating frame, for example. The color of the surface of the sample 1 is measured before and after the process to obtain luminosity difference, and the level of dust pollution of the sample 1 is decided. Since water sprinkling is applied to only the portion of the plate 2, the difference caused by the magnitude of the water absorption coefficient of the sample 1 and the level of the hydrophilic/water repellent property of the surface can be clearly evaluated.
