Signal processing arrangements

A signal processing system has coding means operable on an applied input signal to produce a plurality of successive waveform shape descriptors indicative of the applied signal and compare successive pairs of corresponding shape descriptors to produce a succession of outputs indicative of the differences thereof and characteristic of the applied signal. The shape descriptors may be the distance between zero crossings(D), the shape of the signal between zero crossings(S) and the maximum amplitude between zero crossings(A).
