PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a device which uses the rotation of rolling rolls as a driving source for the rotation of grinding wheels and traversing movement in the axial direction of rolls, with the pattern of ground marks which is out of the question, which is applicable to online grinding in a hot rolling mill, compact, easily maintained and easily provided to an existing rolling mill at low cost. SOLUTION: This device consists of a driven roll 2 which is rotated by being brought into contact with the surface to be ground of the rolling rolls 1 in rolling, grinding wheel 3 which is connected so as to link with the driven roll 2 at different peripheral speed, and a holding and pressing mechanism for holding the driven roll 2 and grinding wheel 3 and for pressing against the surface to be ground. Reciprocatively traversing motion in the axial direction of the rolling rolls is enabled by inclining the axis of rotation of the driven roll 2 against the axial direction of the roll. In this way, the conservation of energy and reduction of a cost are achieved and also by applying to on-line grinding, the frequency of roll changing is reduced and the productivity of a rolling mill is improved.
