摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the difference in temperature between the center and outer periphery of a honeycomb structure and prevent problems such as slipping-off of the honeycomb structure, by using a plurality of ring members as support members for supporting the honeycomb structure within an outer cylinder, and disposing the ring members at prescribed intervals in the axial direction of the honeycomb structure. SOLUTION: This metal carrier includes a honeycomb structure 11 formed by rolling or stacking a laminated sheet of flat and corrugated heat-insulating metal steel plates. The honeycomb structure 11 has a plurality of passages partitioned within an outer peripheral wall 11a in a honeycomb pattern. Each passage of the honeycomb structure 11 axially extends through the outer peripheral wall. A catalyst-carrying layer for carrying an exhaust purifying catalyst of a precious metal component such as platinum, palladium and rhodium is formed on the surfaces of the passages. The catalyst-carrying layer is formed from aluminum. The honeycomb structure 11 is supported within an outer cylinder 12 through a plurality of ring members 13 to 15. The ring members 13 to 15 are formed from a heat-insulating metal steel plate, and axially disposed at prescribed intervals. Thus, the honeycomb structure 11 can be supported within an outer cylinder 2 without slipping off.
