PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber material having low rolling resistance and excellent in wet skid resistance when used for an automobile tire. SOLUTION: The process for producing a modified polybutadiene comprises polymerizing 1,3-butadiene in the presence of a cobalt-base catalyst composition consisting of a cobalt compound, a halogenated organoaluminum compound and water, or a nickel-base catalyst composition consisting of a nickel compound, an organoaluminum compound and a fluorine compound to give a polybutadiene, and modifying the polybutadiene with a diamine compound.
