PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seat device for an automobile not requiring a complicated forward folding operation and allowing improvement of operability. SOLUTION: A hinge plate 10 of this seat device is formed with an engaging long hole 20 extending radially upward with a connection pipe 11 as the center; an engagement release hole 21 extending from the engaging long hole 20; and a hinge hole 10c for journaling a second hinge member 15 of the hinge plate 10, formed as a long hole extending to a nearly same direction as the engaging long hole 20. An engaging pin 25 for engaging with the engaging long hole 20 to prevent a turn of a seat back 4 around the second hinge member 15 is fixed to the seat back 4. A cam plate 30 formed with a cam face 30c is turnably journalled to a seat cushion 3. The cam face 30c is formed such that the cam plate 30c presses the engaging pin 25 to the engaging direction and moves the engaging pin 25 to a direction wherein the engagement of the engaging pin 25 with the engaging long hole 20 is released when the seat back 4 is turned forward around the connection pipe 11.
