PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly engage a lock-up means without shift shock. SOLUTION: This hydromechanical continuously variable transmission is composed of power dividing mechanism D capable of dividing and outputting driving force inputted to a transmission input shaft 1 from an engine, to a first and a second output shafts 11, 12; a hydraulic continuously variable transmission H comprising a hydraulic pump 20 connected to a first output member, and a hydraulic motor 30 connected to the hydraulic pump 20 through a hydraulic closed circuit; a transmission output shaft 2 connected to the hydraulic motor 30 and a second output member and collecting output from both of them to output; a lock-up clutch 15 and a lock-up brake 16 engagedly actuated to transmit entire power to the second output shaft 12 from the transmission input shaft 1 in the power dividing mechanism D; a shift control device for performing shift control of the hydraulic continuously variable transmission H; and a lock-up control device. Before the operation of lock-up in this continuously variable transmission, shift control is performed by the shift control device to correct the power transmission loss portion of the hydraulic continuously variable transmission H.
