PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition uniformly dyeable in a short time without causing the bleeding of finish and excellent in fastness to washing and stability by including water, a specific aromatic alcohol, etc., an organic solvent and a dye. SOLUTION: This composition is obtained by including (A) water, (B) one or more kinds selected from aromatic alcohols represented by the formula (R1 is H, methyl or the like; R2 is CH2OH, CH2CH2OH or the like), ethylene glycol alkyl ethers and N-alkylpyrrolidones, (C) an organic solvent having compatibility with both the ingredients A and B (preferably one or more kinds of polyhydric alcohols), (D) a dye (e.g. a nitro dye) and preferably further (E) one or more kinds of mucilaginous agents (preferably xanthan gum, hydroxyethyl cellulose, etc.). The amounts of the formulated ingredients in the composition are preferably 4-25 wt.% of the ingredient B, 1-80 wt.% of the ingredient C and 0.001-2.0 wt.% of the ingredient D.
