PURPOSE: A method for processing a synchronous error of a cable modem is provided to overcome the synchronous error by re-performing a fitting process of synchronization in the state limited a contact of a upstream channel when the synchronous error is generated. CONSTITUTION: When a synchronous error is generated, a contact of a upstream channel is stopped. If synchronization is fit by fitting the synchronization with a cable modem termination system and by deciding if the synchronization is fit with the cable modem termination system, the contact of the upstream channel is reopened. And if the synchronization is not fit, it is decided if a previously established time is passed. When the certain time is passed, a system is reset, and the contact of the upstream channel is self-controlled by a customer premises equipment when the synchronous error is generated by displaying the synchronous state in a display device equipped in the cable modem.
