PURPOSE: A servo pattern recording method is provided to write or read data on the basis of a servo pattern, which is recorded by a driving apparatus itself, without recording an embedded servo pattern on a record medium. CONSTITUTION: In a servo pattern recording method, if a self servo writing operation is requested, a magnetic head is transferred to a position according to corresponding data on the basis of head transfer data which is stored in a ROM(S101,S103). Data remaining on a magnetic disk is deleted(S104), and whether an erase operation is completed with regard to all regions(S105). If an erase operation is completed with regard to all regions, the magnetic head is returned to an initial position(S107). If an erase operation is not completed with regard to all regions, A head position is shifted by a predetermined interval(S106), and the steps(S104,S105,S106) are repeated until the erase operation is completed with regard to all regions.
