摘要 Continuously coating a metal strip with a relatively thinner film of crosslinkable polymer comprises forming molten polymer with a viscosity at least 10 Pa.sec and cooler than its crosslinking temperature on the surface of an applicator roll whereby the film viscosity is lowered before complete transfer onto the strip supported by a cylinder. Continuously coating a metal strip with a relatively thinner film of crosslinkable polymer that is free of non-reactive diluent or solvent and has a softening temperature at least 50 degreesC comprises forming molten polymer with a viscosity at least 10 Pa.sec and cooler than its crosslinking temperature on the surface of an applicator roll. The molten polymer forms the film and its viscosity is lowered before complete transfer to the strip supported by a cylinder. The roll rotates in the opposite direction to the movement of the strip. An Independent claim is included for: (a) A device for performing as above. Preferred Features: The viscosity is at least halved. The roll has a deformable surface and the cylinder a hard surface or vice versa. The metal strip is pressed against the roll to transfer the film onto the strip. A heated transfer roll may be placed between the applicator roll and the cylinder.
