PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To execute a processing at an appropriate density in double face reading and one face reading and double face recording and one face recording by reading original reading density when double face reading is selected to be smaller than original reading density when one face reading is selected and transmitting the result. SOLUTION: When double face reading is selected, a control circuit 20 reads original density smaller than that when one face reading is selected, and transmits the result. When compulsory double face recording is selected on a receiver side where double face recording is possible, and double face recording is executed, upon designation of double face transmission from a transmitter, recording is executed at density as it is. When one face transmission is designated from the transmitter and double face recording is executed, recording is executed at a smaller density. A read density display circuit 24 displays selected reading density. A double face reading display circuit 28 displays the fact that double face reading is selected. A compulsory double face recording display circuit 32 displays that compulsory double face recording is selected.
