PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detecting method for an index substance by which a peritoneum function can be inspected easily and accurately and by which peritonitis and peritoneum hypertrophy represented by, e.g. peritoneum sclerosiss, peritoneum fibrosis, sclerotic peritoneum, sclerotic peritonitis encapsulans or the like are diagnozed easily and accurately. SOLUTION: An index susbtance is detected from the dialytic ligand drainage of a peritoneum dialysis. The index substance refers to matrix metalloproteinase 2(MMP2) and matrix metalloproteinase 9(MMP9). The MMP2 increases its concentration specifically in the sideration of peritoneum hypertrophy. On the other hand, the MMP9 increases its concentration specifically in the sideration of peritonitis. In addition, the index substance is detected by a zymographic method.
