The invention relates to a rescue device for rescuing one or more people from the water, which comprises a tank (1) and a mechanism for opening the tank, said tank (1) containing material for forming a life raft or a corresponding device, which is designed and arranged in the tank, so that when the tank falls into the water, at least part of the tank, or of the material contained in the tank, will go beneath the surface of the water and form a movement hindering device (2) which is attached to and underneath the tank, and that the rescue device has a filling device for inflating the material which forms the life raft. In a rescue device formed in accordance with the invention, the material needed for forming the life raft forms an element which is attached to the tank (1), which is on the water surface, said element forming at least part of the movement hindering device (2), which goes under the tank when the tank opens, and this material is designed to float upwards as it is being filled and form the life raft.
