PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording apparatus capable of eliminating the non- recording area in a recording medium, without the need of a large number of rollers as a conveyance member. SOLUTION: The apparatus comprises a platen roller 5 for supporting a recording medium S as well as for applying a conveyance force to the recording medium S, a recording head 7 having a heat generating element for generating heat according to an image signal, capable of being located at either a position for pressing the recording medium S against the platen roller 5 or a position withdrawn from the pressing position and a pinch roller 6 capable of being located at either a position for pressing the recording medium S against the platen roller 5 or a position withdrawn from the pressing position.
