PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an additive used for permanent wave treatment process agents and capable of reinforcing wave-forming or waved-correcting effects, reducing the damages to hair, and giving good finished appearance and good touch by adding pantolactone and/or mevalonolactone as active ingredients. SOLUTION: This additive contains pantolactone of formula I (R is a group of formula II) and/or mevalonolactone of formula I (R is a group of formula III) preferably in an amount of 0.005-5.0 wt.% as active ingredients. The additive may be added not only to permanent wave lotions (alkaline reducing agent and/or acidic reducing agent) but also to water-rinsing type permanent process lotions (for example, neutralizing agents, shampoos, rinses, conditioning compositions).
