PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the dispersion stability and jetting stability, and the optical density on a recording paper by dispersing or dissolving a self-dispersible pigment and a polyoxyethylene sorbitan ester of a fatty acid in an aqueous medium. SOLUTION: In an aqueous medium comprising 49-95 wt.% of water and if required a water-soluble solvent, a self-dispersible pigment bearing a carboxylic or sulfonic group on its surface and having a particle diameter corresponding to 50% volume accumulation of at least 80 nm, a particle diameter corresponding to 99% volume accumulation of not more than 400 nm, each measured by means of a dynamic laser scattering grain size distribution meter and an average primary particle size of 10-150 nm, and 0.01-5 wt.% of a polyoxyethylene sorbitan ester of a fatty acid of formula I or II, are dispersed or dissolved. In the formulae, X, Y and Z are each -(CH2CH2O)mH or -CO-R-; R is a 5-30C alkyl; and m is 1-100, provided that at least one of X, Y and Z is -(CH2CH2O)mH.
|
