PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an earth retaining method in which earth retaining can be easily done in a short time and a wide working space can be obtained. SOLUTION: This working can be rapidly carried out as a placing base 30 makes a waling 42 to be arranged orthogonally to a waling 14 by only fitting an attaching part 28 to the waling 14. As to the placing face 30, since the waling 14 and the waling 42 are positioned at the same level when the attaching part 28 is fitted to the waling 24, the soil pressure acting on a sheet pile 12 in the excavating direction which the waling 42 receives is directly supported as an axial force of the waling 14 through a stopper 32. Accordingly, it is not necessary to increase the rigidity of the metal fittings 10 or the waling 14 unnecessarily. Since the waling 42 is supported by the waling 14, a shore strut cylinder 18 for fixing the waling 42 is not required and hence, the working space becoms wide and it makes the working easy.
