SELECTIVELY REDUCTIVE RECOVERY PROCESS OF SELENIUM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To safely recover high grade selenium simple substance at a low cost without being subjected to roasting or distillation by reducing an aqueous solution containing impurities. SOLUTION: Selenium simple substance having a purity of >=99.9% is recovered, as red selenium, by reducing an aqueous solution containing selenium in the form of selenium acid in the presence of chloride ions at <=50 deg.C. The selenium is obtained by leaching copper electrolysis anode slime with chlorine. Crystallization of the red selenium is accelerated by treating the red selenium with warm water of >=50 deg.C and containing no selenium, and further heat-treating in air.
