PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rear view mirror device capable of restricting the damage to an object (especially, a human body) at the minimum in the case where the rear view mirror contacts with the object. SOLUTION: A vertical part 31 of a support arm fitted to a high part of a car body and a mirror support member 32 are formed into the hinged structure by a pin 6, and a solenoid 63 is engaged between an upper lever 61 and a lower lever 62 projected backward of the vertical part 31 and the mirror support member 32. A mirror case 5 is fitted to a lower end of the mirror support member 32 through a ball bearing freely to be turned, and a contact of a micro switch 65 fitted to a lower part of the mirror support member 32 contacts with the mirror case 5. Consequently, when an object contacts with the mirror case 5 and the relative position of the mirror support member 32 and the mirror case 5 is changed by the ball bearing, the micro switch 65 detects this change and operates the solenoid 63 so as to turn the mirror support member 32 backward around the hinge pin 6, and a mirror is thereby moved backward.
