PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain release paper capable of suppressing the permeation of a releasing agent, and having a uniform thin film formed on the surface of the base paper for the release paper, and further to provide a production method thereof. SOLUTION: This release paper obtained by accumulating a base paper, a filling layer consisting essentially of a pigment and/or an adhesive, and a releasing layer in order is obtained by carrying out the paper-making of the base paper, forming the filling layer and the releasing layer in order by an on-machine coater. The releasing layer is an emulsion-type silicone resin. The formation of the filling layer is carried out by using a bar coater in the production method. The Cobb sizing degree of the base paper for the release paper after forming the filling layer is 20-40 g/m2. The number average particle diameter of the emulsion-type silicone resin is 1.0-10μm.
