PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an efficient pump jet by arranging a rotor so as to operate by water without turbulence. SOLUTION: A marine pump jet has a rotor 132 arranged in the upstream and in the forward of a rotor drive mechanism. A lower unit 102 of a towing pump jet has a rotor housing 106 enveloping the rotor and a stator housing 108 arranged in the downstream of the rotor and the rotor housing 106. A drive shaft extended from a gear case in the upward goes into a stator hub 134, here a pinion gear 138 is engaged with a crown gear fixed to a rotor shaft. In this way, the rotor drive mechanism can be arranged in the downstream of the rotor so that a rotor 133 serves as a first mechanism member abutting first on water. An inlet opening of the pump jet is larger than an opening in an outlet of the stator housing 106. The gear case in the upward has a reverse shift mechanism.
