PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a mat for preventing the growth of a plant, capable of being constructed on a natural ground part in a road side area or the like when the construction is carried out by considering the view, capable of nearly controlling the height and kinds of miscellaneous plants, and capable of preventing walkers from being directly disturbed, and further to provide a fitting article of the mat. SOLUTION: This mat for preventing the growth of a plant has an upper layer part 1 having sparse density of a mat-forming material, and a lower layer part 2 having a dense density of the mat-forming material, and is arranged so as to form continuous space S for draining water in the direction along the face of a natural ground A under the face or in the face of the lower layer part 2 having the dense density of the mat-forming material. The drainage ability of the mat for preventing the growth of the plant becomes good by the continuous space S for draining, and when the upper layer part 2 having the sparse density is hardly covered by the soil, the upper layer part 2 of the mat for preventing the growth of the plant is readily dried, and the growth-preventing effect is improved. The mat can not only prevent the natural ground from being washed out but also uniformly control the growth of miscellaneous plants in the upper part of the mat, because when the rain water can not penetrate into the natural ground A under the lower face of the mat, the draining ability of the mat can be equated.
