The invention concerns an input system for words consisting of several symbols comprising a device (10) for inputting symbols by the user with a pen (30), an interface converting the symbols into digital data codes (12), a microprocessor (14) controlled by a software (18) provided with a storage unit wherein is stored a dictionary (20), and a display unit (27). The input device (10) is a pad (27) comprising a plurality of activating zones, at least two of said activating zones being each associated with at least a symbol whereof the digital data code is supplied to the user by the interface (12) when the user applies a pressure on the zones with a pen (30), a word is input by the continuous contact of the pen (30) on the pad (27) passing through each of the zones associated with the symbols forming the word.
