PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely adjust the reading starting position of an original by executing the timing adjustment of starting/finishing of reading the set value of a malfunction preventing time every motor speed. SOLUTION: Concerning START, change of an original tip detecting sensor from off to on or off to on is a trigger. At the time of detecting the change of the sensor, a malfunction avoiding time (TCx) is obtained from RAM 51 from an operation panel 40 and this TCx is substituted to a counter P1. When P1 becomes 0, it is confirmed whether the original tip sensor keeps its state after the generation of a changing point. In addition, an original carrying time (SCx) is substituted to a counter P2. When P2 becomes 0, it is judged that the original tip reaches a reading starting position. Then main processing is finished and reading starts. In this case, TCx and SCx are values different depending on each motor speed and the value of each is previously registered from the panel 40. The positions of starting/finishing reading are adjusted each of four kinds of speed, e.g. by changing this value.
