PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decide exposure with which a subject image is excellently printed on photographic paper even when the deviation of density distribution exists on negative film. SOLUTION: This exposure deciding device is equipped with a read-in means 11 reading image data from the negative film, an edge detection means 12 detecting the edge of the read image data, an area decision means 13 deciding an area based on the detected edge, an extraction means 14 taking out the effective image data from the image data of the negative film by using the area, and a decision means 15 deciding the exposure for printing the negative film based on the effective image data.
