PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an on-vehicle image pickup device that picks up an image at a remote place in an excellent state by increasing a height of poles on the occurrence of congestion or the like so as to place an image pickup section at a higher position without losing the styling and aerodynamic performance of a vehicle. SOLUTION: This on-vehicle image pickup device is provided with poles that are erected at left and right corners of a front bumper 1 at a front end of a vehicle and freely telescopic, image pickup sections 5 each placed to an upper end of each pole 3 turnably around the pole, a display section that displays an image picked up by each image pickup section 5, a pole drive mechanism that changes the projection height of each pole 3, an image pickup section drive mechanism that turns each image pickup section around the pole, an operation input reception section and a control section that drives the pole drive mechanism and the image pickup section drive mechanism on the basis of a command received through the input reception section. When the vehicle reaches a prescribed speed or over, each pole 3 automatically decreases its height and reception of input of the command to extend each pole 3 is stopped.
