PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element having both merits of an organic material and an inorganic material, high efficiency and a long life at a low cost. SOLUTION: This organic EL element is provided with a substrate 1, a hole injection electrode 2 and an electron injection electrode 6 on the substrate 1, and an organic layer containing an organic material between the electrodes 2, 6. The organic layer includes a luminescent layer 4 having a conjugate polymer. An inorganic electron injection carrier layer 5 is provided between the luminescence layer 4 and the electron injection electrode 6, and the organic electron carrier on layer 5 contains one or more kinds of oxides selected from a lithium oxide and other oxides as a first component, one or more kinds of oxides selected from a strontium oxide and other oxides as a second component, and a silicon oxide and/or a germanium oxide as a third component. An inorganic hole injection layer contains the oxide of the third component as the main component, and the average composition of the main component is (Si1-xGex)Oy, where 0<=x<=2, 1.7<=y<=1.99 in this organic EL element.
