PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal projector capable of obtaining a picture quality suitable for the size of a picture to be projected on a screen. SOLUTION: Relating to a liquid crystal projector which is provided with an AD converter 12 converting signals of R, G, B into data of R, G, B, a frequency converting circuit 13 for converting outputs of the A/D converter 12 into frequencies made to correspond to LCD panels, a D/A converter 15 for converting the data of R, G, B obtained by the frequency converting circuit 13 into analog signals of R, G, B, LCD drivers 16 to which outputs of the D/A converter 15 are to be transmitted and LCD panels 17 to 19 which are to be driven by the LCD drivers 16, this projector is provided with a picture size calculating means for calculating the size of a piture to be projected on the screen and a control means controlling the sampling frequency of the converter 12 based on the calculated size of the picture.
