A diffusion barrier (31) is located within the inner wall of the gas entry hole (25). The barrier is set-back into the diffusion channel (30). An Independent claim is included for the production of the lambda sensor. To make a space ahead of the diffusion barrier, a lost spacer is inserted. This vaporizes during a subsequent sintering operation. Preferred Features: The gas hole enters a space (34) ahead of the diffusion barrier, the latter being set back 0.1-0.3 mm from the wall of the hole. The barrier is annular around the hole. The barrier inner diameter (D2) is 0.5-0.8 and the hole diameter is 0.3-0.5. The barrier outer diameter is 2 mm. The barrier precedes the inner pumping electrode (19), seen in the direction of gas diffusion. This electrode has a hollow chamber (21) for gas measurement, which is formed by a second lost spacer.
